Peace lessons in Petrozavodsk schools

September 24, Chair of Pedagogics of KSPA hosted a panel discussion on school events coinciding with the Day of Peace. The Chair celebrates the Day of Peace from September 21, till October 3, 2012 in the framework of the 80^th Anniversary celebration.
The meeting was run by the Head of Chair, Professor E.Fedorova with participation of Decent N.Dubinina, Head of Inter-university center of intercultural communication and patriotic education, Docent I.Shabaev, Docent N.Bogdanova, Deputy Dean S.Ostrovskaya, students of the fifth year of the Department of Technology and Entrepreneurship and students of the fourth year of the Department of History and Philology.
They discussed the topic of Peace Lesson, goals and purposes, extracurricular forms of events coinciding with the Peace Day, emblems, logos, events etc.
In the course of the discussion participants came up with the following topics for the Peace lesson:
United world; The best world; Symbol of peace; What is home country; World of childhood; World in the XXI century; World as home – home as world; My inner world; Happy world; Bright world; How to understand this world; World of labor of love; World of science; World of man; World of harmony; Image of Russia.
As the result, students of the fifth year of the Department of Technology and Entrepreneurship chose the World of childhood topic and they will use it at lessons in Lyceum 13, Gymnasium 17 and in the Department. (N Pavlovskaya – 652 group; D.Silivonchik – 652 group; A.Kustov – 651 group; E.Kluev – 651 group; N.Yarynchak – 653 group; D.Timofeev – 653 group).
The idea is to find out what children, their parents and relatives love to do before planning an event. As the result, each participant will be able to teach others what he can do. The following forms were proposed: technology class, class meeting, parents meeting, excursion, workshop, focus group, meeting with a guest etc. An event can result into a creative book of a class, poster, crafts classes in kindergarten etc.
September 26, students of group 443 of the Department of History and Philology run Peace lessons in high school classes of the University lyceum (Anastasia Loimoeva, Anna Jauhonen, Marfa Mikhailova, Darya Utkina, Anastasia Tishina, Julia Smirnova, Olga Timofeeva, Tatyana Rakovich, Anastasiya Ivanova, Alexandra Chebakovskaya).
Topics of the Peace lessons were the following: Pacifism – world peace or obedience, World of friendship, World of cinema, World of music, World of Caucasus, World of politics.
All lessons were aimed at promotion of moral and value patterns of high school students. A survey asking what should be dome to make Karelia a better place was conducted among 8^th graders.
In events like these, organized by the Chair of Pedagogics with support of the Petrozavodsk Administration students engage in social and cultural practice in the framework of pedagogical activity, practice of socialization is worked out for school students and they will be held monthly.
