Hello, Lapland!

Karelian State Pedagogical Academy participated in TOP CHEF project, which is being implemented within the framework of the EU program YOUTH IN ACTION.
The goal of the TOP CHEF project is to promote student exchange, which allows students from Finland, Russia and Austria to compare foods production in participating countries. Students learn about cuisine of three countries. Each team presents their country and participates in cooking contest. The project united high school students from Oulu and Kuusamo schools of Finland, from three Karelian schools (Lyceum 1, Petrovskaya school, school No2 of Kostomuksha) and Ebensee school of Austria. The main part of the project was organization of a camp in the youth centre of Oivanki of Kuunsamo, Finland from 14 till 21 of January, 2012. Project participants visited the Oulanka national park, went hiking in snowshoes to a rafting center Mulukoski. On the way back they visited an ice-sculpture contest in Ruka. Students were impressed by a fishing experience, the ice fishing was organized by professional Finnish fishermen with usage of modern fishing technologies. That day they fished out 7 big luces and 200 kg of vendace. Kuusamo partners organized a guided tour to Toranka school. Project participants also visited a milk farm and a deer farm. After riding reindeer each got a “deer driving license”. The project administration decided to continue the project and organize the next camp in Austria.
